The Lowell Observatory’s newest toy, the Discovery Channel Telescope, has finally gone online — and they’ve released super-snazzy pictures of three of our favorite galaxies to celebrate. Above is M109, a barred spiral galaxy 84 million light years from Earth. And the other two great galaxy pictures, showing the Sombrero Galaxy and the Whirlpool Galaxy.

A star-gazer has come a little bit closer to the final frontier - after spending 18 months photographing the night sky.

With just an ordinary digital camera, Alex Cherney turned thousands of snaps into an incredible time-lapse video of the cosmos.

Using long exposures to allow more light in, these breath-taking pictures from the southern tip of Australia demonstrate how he captured the dramatic way the sky changes at night.

I actually saw this exactly image on the sky in Georgetown, Tx.  It was amazing :)

Thank you for this.  I feel so good reading this :)  I have one person in mind when it comes to this phrase.  We haven’t talked in a month, but that’s ok.  I’m totally over it.  Things do get better =)
